Abandoned geared Alpha 3 running either 250 or 400w Mercury. This used to be an Elf petrol station and this was the standard lighting fit. Similar installations can be found in the area on other ex Elf petrol stations. |

Eleco HW509 (90w sox) on Stewarts & Lloyd 25ft (8m) column. This was the standard main road fit in Portsmouth and much of South Hampshire during the 1950s and early 1960's. Almost now totally extinct in Portsmouth and fast disappearing elsewhere. A classic streetlighting installation. Works to replace this installation have started, July 2009. Update: Column removed early August 2009. See later in collection for its replacement. |

Eleco HW846 Golden Ray Mk7 gear in head (35w sox) on Portsmouth Corporation cast iron column. This was the very last example of this lantern in Portsmouth. Removed October 2007 and unfortunately I was unable to save it. |

What a 1950's classic! Twin arm Stewarts & Lloyds 25ft/8m column with twin Eleco HW509s (90w sox). Totally original but sadly removed July 08. Fortunately I was able to save some similar lanterns. The S&L twin arm column will be extinct in Portsmouth once these works are completed at the end of July. |
