The lighting in this village is Parish maintained. Back in 2005 there was a public consultation on what new lighting could be fitted as the old tungsten timeswitch controlled lighting "was increasingly difficult to maintain". One column was fitted with a modern "repro" swan neck and "heritage" lantern running metal halide as an example of possible replacements...

A return visit in 2008, turned out to have a unexpected surprise ..

Column is completely enclosed by hedge but new swan neck and refurbished lantern has been fitted with a domestic CFL. Control is believed to be via either refurbished or new timeswitches.	Column has been repainted with new swan neck probably a refurbished period original but of different design to the previous example.	New swan neck probably a refurbished period original but with new scroll work.	"Proper" heritage lighting!
This was the column that was fitted with a modern heritage lantern running metal halide.	Fortunately it now is fitted with something more appropriate.	New bracket (but with no scroll work) and replacement lantern fitted to column, but this has not been repainted. It looks like the CFL has fallen out of lampholder into the bottom of the bowl.	Completely new wall installation.
